Generally, a license is a permission to do things, being forbidden without it. Therefore a license shows juridically a permission or the grant of a certain right of use of intellectual property of another person. As a rule, a granting of usufructuary rights is made by a license agreement.
The licensor always remains holder of the right (e. g. owner of the work). By the license the licensor allocates the rights of use exclusively. This usually happens against a consideration, the so-called license fee.
The license is not regulated legally in particular. Rather the underlying legal norms arise from the respective special laws like trademark law and copyright law as well as from the general contract law.
